The following week was a dream. The kids had their horns filed back, their teacher was no longer suffering from a week long migraine and sinus infection. Their teacher got her grove back. We had a really good week. It's been pretty good since. They are coming....but to be honest I just feel that my creativity gets stifled. It's hard to explain, but I have all these creative ideas that I want to do, but I just can't...they can't handle it, they aren't ready for it, we are too busy doing other things.... I'm trying to find ways to feel better about this and still have the kids learn. I think I put a lot of pressure on myself teaching grade one since it's such an important year (I know all years are important...but this year in particular shows the MOST growth. I think anyway). I want them so bad to succeed and read and write...that sometimes I set the bar a little too high and kick myself when I have to lower it and then lower it again....and perhaps again. BUT the good news is, that it will go back up. Baby steps. This is a challenging group. A low group. But a nice a group for the most part. My attitude has been adjusted back to the normal "Sassy" one since the last post.
What else?
My liver is fine.
And?
Mason was the absolute cutest lion on the block for Halloween! He kept saying "can we do a couple more houses mommy?" He ended up doing the whole street on both sides!! He loved it. I think he liked ringing bells and talking to people more than the candy. We have given most of the candy away (or helped eat it...*sigh*). He gets to pick one treat after he eats a good dinner...it's been helping him eat more! Hahaha..he's not use to getting candy, so it's been a big treat.
Now we are in birthday/Christmas mode. This is the conversation we had this morning:
Me: Mason, you know who is watching to see if you are doing good listening?
Mason: Nana?
Me: Well, yes, but Santa too. Do you remember who Santa is?
Mason: Yes.
Me: He brings a toy to boys and girls who do good listening, and are nice to their friends.
Mason: (with that impish grin he gives me...you'd just have to see it to understand) Does he bring fans?
I had to laugh. All the poor kid wants is a ceiling fan in his room. That's it. Ask him what he wants for Christmas and he says a fan. Birthday? "A fan for my room. With a remote." At least that makes shopping easy right?
I think that's it for now. I'll tell you about my stiff neck and minor concussion another time.
G'nite!

The kid is obviously mentally challenged. A fan??? :-P
(And no, it had nothing to do with your post! Your kids are probably far more mature!)
LOL! That boy is too adorable! I hope you are ok. Like - wtf with yer liver? And how did you get a concussion? And omg I have yet to mail yer jelly. I suck. But I lurve ya! :)
eats a good meal? that must be nice.. i can't get my kid to eat anything.. no meat, pasta, vegetables, fruits..nothing
he eats waffles, pancakes, donuts, chips, cookies, yogurt (LOVES yogurt, so much so he eats too much) and french fries...
Hi Sassy,
Nice to see you posting again.
Mason does look cute. When I read what Mason said, I thought he wanted Fans (Like the numerous Fans a superstar has). :)
Have a nice day!
@KBear
I usually do the following for kids:
Saute Onions, Bellpeppers, Zuchini and Tomatoes. Add some salt and turmeric powder. Allow it to cool and make a puree out of it. Use this as a pizza topping. Tell the kids that its "Tomato Pizza". They usually buy the story, since the puree is red in colour.
Works really well with the Kids I know.
Os - correction: the kid is gifted. He has no time for toys. =P
Hippychic - We are all fine..and my liver is just fine. It's just that I've been enjoying a few bevvies of the spirited sort...you know the kind ;) And don't worry about the jelly...I still have a box here for you!! I'm so lazy...
Kbear - Mason doesn't eat a lot, but he usually eats pretty good foods. The most consistent things I can get him to eat are yogurt (LOVES), fruits and veggies and crackers/cereal. He likes "kid" foods too. I'm happy when he eats more than a few bites at a time. I don't know how they survive on so little...and yet they grow and are healthy!
VBR - Hahaha..yeah..he means a ceiling fan...or any kind of fan for that matter!! He loves them. We live in an area with a wind turbine and let me tell you the excitement it brings! Maybe one day he'll have "fans" of the other sort. For now, we can make him happy if we buy him a ceiling fan!
Oh! And I love that idea for the pizza sauce. We'll try that later this week in fact. He'll eat all those things anyway, but it will "beef" up the homemade pizza!
Casey had a similar costume - all plush and adorable little cow- but it was like the hottest Halloween day ever and didn't get to where it but for 10 minutes. Thank goodness we had portraits done.
