My New Favourite-ish Show

I can't say I really watch a lot of tv. More so now that we have "company," because I'm half expected to stay and sit around with the fam-damily. It's impossible to sit and read, and well..copulating? That's a whole other unsatisfying story in itself.
(*Edit: read lack of opportunity there, nothing else!)

I've recently tuned into a new show on CBC: Little Mosque on the Prairie.

It's a comedy about Muslims living in a small prairie town. The jist of the first 2 episodes that have aired are that there is a group of Muslims trying to open a mosque in some rented space (in an Anglican church no less). They have this Imam (a Muslim priest like figure) coming to 'run' the mosque. It's basically the trials and tribulations thus far. The comedy plays a lot on stereotypes of Muslims and also us honkies. I won't go into the complete happenings of the first two episodes, but if you get CBC, then check it out. There has been controversy on this show so far, but I'm hoping people just see it for what it is: comedy. We should all be able to laugh at ourselves. I think the writing (I believe (one of?) the writers is a Muslim woman) for this show is quite 'quick-witted.' Besides, the character Amaar Rashid (played by Zaib Shaikh) is quite handsome:
Here's a clip from the first episode where he is trying to catch a plane from Toronto out to the prairies. He's having a rather interesting conversation with his mom on the phone, and some crazy white lady ends up thinking he's a terrorist and he gets hauled away:

no cbc here :( the show looks funny but I doubt we'll see it in the US. We had a show called The Book Of Daniel which was about a minister addicted to pain meds, a lesbian daughter, a gay son, an alcholic wife, ect, ect. The show was funny as hell but got pulled because of church pressure.

I think it's funny, and yep, Zaib Shaikh is a HOTTIE! ET Canada interviewed the creator, she wanted to present her point of view growing up as a Canadian Muslim, and I'm happy that CBC took it on. It's like general Christian society pussy foots around Muslims now, but hello, most Muslim Canadians are just as silly as Non-Muslims and can laugh as well. http://tv.peekvid.com/ has the vids up (not sure of the quality though)
