Trendy or just tragic?

There seems to be a fashion phenomenon that perhaps people are misunderstanding. Perhaps I am missing the boat on this one too. Jean Jackets are popular again (maybe they didn't go 'out' who knows). They seem to be perfect for this time of year too. It's still a bit cool to go without a jacket, but too warm to need a winter jacket. I confess that I LOVE my jean jacket. I am currently living in it, while I await the warmer weather. However, I only wear it with non-jean pants. I'm just not comfortable with wearing jeans from top to bottom.

This jean jacket-jeans ensemble has been affectionately called the "Canadian Tuxedo". I do believe the term was coined in the movie Super Troopers. However, being a Canadian, and a bit more savvy then most rednecks, I'd like to propose that we simply refer to this mishap as a denim tuxedo. Unless you happen to be from Northern Ontario you can have your jeans and North Bay Dinner Jacket (Flannel shirt) or your Canadian Tuxedo cuz you're probably a redneck, and we don't want to complicate things for you too much.

I've seen this 'look' no less then 10 times today, and quite frankly I'm not sold on it. I think there is something wrong with it. I can't quite put my finger on it, but people seem to do it, so does that make it okay? I was always taught that "just because everyone else is doing it, doesn't mean you have to" (hey, it's not just for drugs and sex mom!) , so I'm going to stick to my guns here and avoid that look. Personally, I think if you are wearing your "Canadian Tuxedo", then clearly you are someone who is probably sporting your Scarborough suitcase too. For those of you who don't know where to get one, they are available at beer stores everywhere.

So tell me: Canadian Tuxedo: trendy or tragic?

I'm gonna go with the tragic side for this poll. Rarely have I seen a person that looks awesome in the demin jacket/jean combo. Sadly it just sends the image of "Disco Stu" from the Simpsons to my active imagination!

Ohmygod so tragic! Especially when the denims don't even come close to matching. The only time this sort of works is if you have a sort of long tunic that acts as a moat between the jacket and jeans. (shudders)

My vote has always been no on the Canadian Tuxedo and stand by my opinion. As for the videos, glad you liked them! We did pool in to get her some vodka (she didn't like wine, apparently), but she still inevitably got mad at us. Who can blame her? And I do indeed make several cameos in the videos. In Bohemian Rhapsody, I'm the one right in the beginning going, "Mama ooooooh" and then later shouting far too emphatically, "I DON"T WANT TO DIE!" Yup, that's me. Drunk, proud, and apparently, not ready to die.

Hi...my name is Mackey... I have worn the Canadian Tuxedo......as recently as two weeks ago.
Not that this let's me off the hook but I make sure my jacket matches my jeans. It's not a faded jacket & dark jeans. Actually, it's a dark denim jacket that I love to wear with my Old Navy jeans.
I understand if you would prefer to not associate with me any further.*hanging head in shame*

I love my jean jacket. Still totally in style, at least it has been for a few years here in the states. As long as you don't wear the matching jean jacket with actual jeans then you're okay...

@ hella - I knew u'd see it my way..slap me if I ever forget.

@randi - I agree! I dont think I've seen anyone really and truly pull it off...although the website that bunky jumping pundit suggested shows a decent pic..but I'm still not sold!

@ leah the super cool - awesome! What a star! Drink brings out the best in us doesn't it? Ive been known to sing a song or two very badly when drunk....

@ bunky jumping pundit - glad I could be of some help...and she does look pretty good, but I can't say I'm sold!

@ Mackey - I'm here to support you during this difficult time. It could be worse, it could be a dark jacket and light jeans...oh the horror! We'll get thru this and no worries, I still love ya!

@ - the outlaw torn - You are a smart man with common sense I tell ya! I can help you get some use of that jacket..but only if you're willing to trust my fashion sense...muhahaha

@ the funky bee - totally agree!

@ kari - Ohhh Seether was soooo good! not to rub salt in the wounds...If you're ever in Toronto and they are playing I'll take ya to make it up! What do u opt for instead of a jean jacket?

Beats the hell out of a Member's Only jacket (and yes, for the record--I did own one).

Oh no! If anyone wears jeans w/a jean jacket they are screaming to get made fun of. I mean - head to toe jeans? Why don't you just strap on some fringe boots?!? Or better yet, make sure your jeans are the really tight variety (kind of like a jean spandex).

Yikes!
