I suffered from Anal Glaucoma today.
Anal glaucoma: can't see my ass going into work today!
It's weird that it hit today. It usually acts up on a Monday. Maybe it's because the summer is so close I can taste it.
The kids have been wired, and quite frankly I'm too damn tired to shut them up and calm them down. I guess I just added fuel to the fire when I arranged to take both classes to McDonalds for lunch yesterday. 39 kids. Poor, poor patrons who wanted a quiet lunch (is that possible at McD's?). However, they were surprising good and I don't think we trashed the place to badly.
I did find it amusing that one of the kids asked me why I took them to McDonalds when I always bug them about eating healthy foods. I had to laugh. Here is my teaching being thrown back in my face. Smart ass kid. Well, dear child, it was a treat for doing the ministry testing and surviving. Most people don't eat it very often, so it's okay if you treat yourself once and awhile. Now maybe we should try and teach that to the 4-5 kids I have that get fast food for lunch atleast 3 days a week! (Warning: Rant ahead...) My one pet peeve is children's lunches. You would not believe the crap that most kids get. I have a strict rule about only eating healthy snacks after first recess, but sometimes it's up to me to provide them with a healthy choice. Lunches are packed with chips, cookies, cakes, candies, crap (all c words oddly enough). Where did the fruit and veggies go? What happened to getting sandwiches? They seem to have been replaced by those friggen "lunchables." Some parents even send those 'make your own cookie' lunchables as the 'main course' then pack the lunch with sweet treats for the rest of the day. Umm hello?! Do you look at what you're feeding your child? Do you wonder why your child is obese? Hyper? Not the brightest bulb? I'm the one that has to deal with them most of the day, so I guess you really don't care too much about their 'activity level', but please, think about their health. It's now that they will learn good eating habits! I could go on for hours about what I've seen, but you get the point right? Am I over-reacting?!
Side note: I am well aware that people are overweight for different reasons. I'm not attacking overweight people. I myself am not the thinest person around. However, I think it is important to eat healthy. Especially kids. Healthy foods give them the lasting energy they need and help them focus and learn and stay in good health. Ahhhh screw it. If I have to explain myself further I will...but hopefully you get what I'm saying...

I get you and Im under the influence! It's totally true that many kids are obese because of simply the garbage their parents feed them! I have had some friends that fed their kids crap like that all day long and then gripe about the doctor telling them the kid was overweight - unbelievable! One in particular thinks that fish stix in a box with french fries and ketchup is a balanced meal - ughhhh. (I am guilty of cooking that - just not all the time LOL) I think all the convenience foods that are marketed just for kids don't help, and maybe trick people too. When I was a much younger mom, I really thought McD's was cool to feed my oldest 3 or 4 times a week. She was eating chicken right?? Well I ended up learning to late to avoid problems but I'm glad she has learned with me about better eating.
I hope you feel better soon too, and that school's last few days go by as fast as possible!! And TY for the get better wishes for me too! You are such a cool woman! :)
I hear ya Sassy!!
I work at my sons school as a lunch aid & it blows me away what some kids bring. My kids get Pizza lunchables 2 times a month. That is it. They know that they get a Pizza Lunchable for lunch the day after I go grocery shopping.
Another thing I hate are those friggin Fruit Roll Ups & shit. Hello people!!!!!!!!! That is not fruit!!!!!!! May be O.K. for an occasional snack but not part of lunch!!!
Oh & those microwave cheap ass noodles(Ichiban etc.) those suckers are full of fat, MSG & sodium. Aaack!!!!! Why don't you just through some rat poison in your kids lunch!
most of the unhealthy and obese kids should sue their parents!
My mom retired a few years ago and now she works at the local elementary school as a lunch monitor. My mom comes back with the worst stories. She a) can not believe what people send their kids for lunch, and b) can not believe how much food these children WASTE because no one is paying attention or gives a crap. Sometimes my mom tells the kids to take home what they don't eat just so their parents know how much of what they are eating every day. Some of these parents just have no idea. BUT there's only so much a lunch monitor can do you know?
Growing up I always had great lunches. Usually a sandwich, maybe some doritos, a piece of fruit, maybe celery sticks or carrots, a juice box and when I got lucky a cookie or a ho ho or something similar. It was pretty balanced and still had fun stuff like a little desert but it wasn't dominated by the bad stuff. I learned some really good eating habits.
There is a new program on TLC called "Honey We're Killing The Kids" and it is ALL about the crap we feed our children. It's so spot on when it comes to this topic.
Good luck with the kids in your class Sassy. You are doing a good thing by teaching them good health habits!
anal guacamole?
the mind reads what it wants to read i suppose...
btw, if parents acctually took a walk with their kids they wouldn't be so fat.
unfortunately all the walks in the world can't cure ugly (sorry, some kids do not meet the common standards of physial beauty.)
A friend of mine works w/ autistic kids and they're saying now that a diet w/out sugar can help them... go figure right? If your kids are old enough, show them Supersize Me. They'll never eat McDonalds AGAIN.
